Matt Scheuritzel- Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Posts by Matt

A Philadelphia, PA native, Matt is a Senior Political Science major at Cornell University. He has spent much of his life worshipping the Philadelphia Phillies, and he has a level 9 man-crush on Charlie Manuel. A towering specimen, both physically and intellectually, Matt is many things, but certainly not an introvert. His outspoken and opinionated take on life is refreshing in today’s politically correct society. Matt is a film and music enthusiast, an avid reader and a closeted video game nerd. When he isn’t watching the latest movie nobody has ever heard of, he’s usually yelling at democrats. He is very concerned with the current path of this country, and knows the only way to fix it is with change, not “hope.”

Alex Mercho- Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer

Posts by Alex

Alex hails from Indianapolis, IN; however, he is the byproduct of the culture shock between a Syrian immigrant and a small-town Indiana girl. As a result of his far-flung family and work with international NGOs, Alex has spent a great deal of time traveling the world, picking up languages and friends along the way. His international family ties have instilled a passion for Middle Eastern and global cultures and languages. Alex is a Junior at Cornell University, majoring in Political Science and History. He is also on the Heavyweight Rowing Team. He served on the Board of Directors of Timmy Global Health, and worked with the Palestine Childrens Relief Fund in Lebanon and Syria. He is an avid drinker of tea and wine, though usually not at the same time. He would be thrilled to spend the rest of his life traveling. Alas, this is the real world so instead, Alex writes for Current Ground.

Sophie is a recent graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in English and Art History.  Although she calls Los Angeles home, she has lived in Boston, Ireland, New Zealand, France and, most exotic of all, Lawrence, Kansas.  She recently moved to New York, where she is working in PR and slowly learning what it means to be a grownup. Sophie is a lover of all dogs, most contemporary art and any dish involving bacon.  Joan Didion is her hero.  She is currently trying to figure out what good a B.A. in English and Art History could possibly do her and hopeswriting about literature, film and culture for Current Ground will give her a clue.[/author_info][/author]

Craig Mason- Contributor

Craig is a Senior at Cornell University, majoring in hotel administration and minoring in real estate. Hailing from “Wild and Wonderful” Buckhannon, West Virginia, he is odd blend of traditional country values and Ivy League perspective. He is the son of a small business owner, proud compatriot in the Sons of the American Revolution, and former Cornell fraternity president. Craig loves country music, tobacco, the outdoors, and soccer. His voice comes to Current Ground through the suggestion and graces of his friend and roommate Matt, who has most often found merit and wisdom in Craig’s composition of words, only this time they’re written down. He’d love to describe what his contribution to CG will focus on, but in the words of an honest Appalachian, it’s “hard to tell.”

Laura is a recent graduate of Fordham University, where she studied Communications & Photography. Born in Texas and raised in South Beach, Laura traded in the sunshine for seasons, and after living in NYC for five years she considers herself a bona fide New Yorker. Laura is Portuguese, Spanish, and Colombian and, thanks to her parents’ generosity, she spent her childhood traveling around the world and discovering all the amazing things it has to offer. She now works in television as a freelance On-Air Scheduler and hopes to one-day work for the mecca—HBO.
Laura is happiest snapping photos of anyone and everyone who will let her. She also has an intense love of discovering new restaurants, music, and art. Oh, and she’s a hair-twirler. It’s an addiction, ok?[/author_info][/author]
