A Few New Movies to Check Out
I wrote yesterday on how the era of big time movies seems to have come and gone. For my pick of the day, however, I want to show you two new movies coming out in the near future that look great. These are by no means blockbuster bangers, but is it a tiny bit hypocritical? Maybe. Oh well. So here they are:
Restless (September 16, 2011)
This will be director Gus Van Sant’s first feature film since Milk. You have to trust this guy. He has a real knack for exposing the roughest features of humanity in a really beautiful way. And he does all this in an uplifting manner (think Good Will Hunting). Anyway this movie’s plot seems strange, but my money’s on it being excellent. It’s about a young man with an imaginary friend who crashes funerals and falls in love with a terminally ill woman and everything he learns along the way. Don’t take my word for it. See below.
Our Idiot Brother (August 26, 2011)
I’ve always had an immense crush on Zooey Deschanel and was saddened to hear she was with Ben Gibbard from the Postal Service (really?). But, that’s not the reason for adding this movie. It looks great. I think Paul Rudd is one of the funnier guys in Hollywood, and also doesn’t just stick to the same roles a la Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell (minus Everything Must Go). The comedy also looks like a nice blend of I Love You, Man humor and Little Miss Sunshine humor. That’s not saying one’s smart and one’s stupid. I enjoyed both.
